Fallout 3 Hints

Set B Repeating Encounters

  • #1: Three Brotherhood outcasts on patrol. They won't be hostile unless you've attacked outcast patrols before.

#2: Three Brotherhood outcasts fighting 3 to 5 raiders.

#3: A Brotherhood outcast scout flees from deathclaws, and an outcast patrol joins the fight.

#4: Tinker Joe and his robots. You'll usually find them near the RobCo Facility (Zone 8/6), though they sometimes wander around a bit. If your karma is in the neutral range, you can buy the robot named Sergeant RL-3 for 1000 caps (or 500 caps if your Barter skill is 70 or higher).

#5: 1 to 3 slavers escorting 1 to 4 slaves to Paradise Falls. You can kill the slavers and free the slaves if you want.

#6: 1 to 3 slavers chasing 2 to 4 slaves who are trying to escape. You can attack either side or both.

#7: 2 to 4 slavers looking for 2 to 4 runaway slaves. You can kill the slavers to help the slaves, or you can talk to the slavers and make them pay you to tell them where the slaves are.

#8: A technology scavenger and his pet guarding a car. Talk to him to get regular scavenger trader services.

#9: Several raiders attack a scavenger and his robot. Make sure the scavenger survives so you can get trader services from him.

    #10: 3 to 6 raiders attacking 3 to 5 fleeing settlers.

#11: 2 to 5 vicious dogs patrolling around.

#12: A patrolling Enclave eyebot. If you've already finished the first two sets of main quests, destroying the eyebot may cause a vertibird to land nearby to investigate.

#13: 1 to 3 hunters going after randomly chosen animal prey. You can barter with the hunters for food and stimpaks.

#14: A patrol of 3 to 5 Talon Company mercenaries.

#15: An Enclave patrol that may include a modified deathclaw. (This can only happen after you finish the first two sets of main quests.)

#16: A non-hostile super mutant named Uncle Leo. You can talk to him at length about things, and can "rob" him to get a suit of dirty pre-war businesswear.

#17: An Enclave patrol (that may include a modified deathclaw) fighting 2 to 3 Brotherhood outcasts. (This can only happen after you finish the first two sets of main quests.)

#18: 2 to 3 wastelanders being attacked by a super mutant or centaur. (This encounter usually happens near Vault 87 (Zone 4/7) or the Germantown Police HQ (Zone 5/1).)

#19: 2 to 4 escaped slaves looking for Hannibal Hamlin and the Temple of the Union. You can gain karma by telling them to go to the Lincoln Memorial, or provoke them into fighting you by trying to trick them into going to Paradise Falls. (This can only happen after you finish the misc. quest "Head of State" by helping Hamlin and his people relocate to the memorial.)

#20: The AntAgonizer and several giant ants attacking 2 to 3 wastelanders. Since you didn't kill the AntAgonizer before, do so now! (This can only happen after you finish the misc. quest "The Superhuman Gambit," and only if the AntAgonizer is still alive and the Mechanist is dead or retired.)

#21: An Enclave patrol gets dropped off by a vertibird. (This can only happen after you finish the first two sets of main quests.)

#22: An Enclave patrol fighting four Talon Company mercenaries. (This can only happen after you finish the first two sets of main quests.)

#23: A scavenger merchant with his pack brahmin and pet. You can barter with him, or you can kill him and his animals, then raid his inventory.

#24: Two fire ant workers plus either two more workers or a soldier. (This can only happen after you get the misc. quest "Those!" and before you finish it.)

#25: If you've already had the Set B unique encounter #1, you can meet the same "hunters" again (if you didn't kill them all before for being disgusting cannibals).

#26: A patrol consisting of 2 to 5 Talon Company mercs. How many you get depends on your level. (Level 16+ characters get all five mercs.)

    #27: A herd of 2 to 5 mad brahmin.

#28: This encounter is similar to the special hit squad encounters, except that there are no level or perk requirements. If your karma is in the good range, three Talon Company mercs will attack you. If it's in the evil range, three Regulators will attack you. (Otherwise, no attack.)

#29: A Brotherhood outcast patrol that consists of two outcasts and one robot.
