Fallout 3 Hints

Random Encounters

  • 1 of 5: As you roam the vast outdoor wasteland area, either aimlessly or using the Exploration Tips, you'll have various random encounters with various creatures and NPCs.
  • 2 of 5: Not everything you find or fight will be a random encounter. There are certain spots (which are marked on the World Map and its component zone maps) you can go to in order to have a chance of getting a genuine random encounter to happen nearby.
  • 3 of 5: Some random encounters are unique, meaning you can only have each one once in any playthru, and some are repeating, which means you can have them more than once in a playthru.
  • 4 of 5: The unique and repeating encounters are further subdivided into two sets -- clustered encounters and wide distance encounters. There's also the special encounters that feature a hit squad from either the Regulators or the Talon Company. The maps label all encounter spots A (clustered), B (wide distance), or C (hit squad).
  • 5 of 5: All five categories of random encounter are summarized below. Note that the Set A and Set B encounters are numbered for reference purposes only -- they have nothing to do with what order you can get the encounters in (that's entirely random).
