Special Hit Squad Encounters
If you're level 6 or higher, you can have non-random one-time encounters with three-man hit squads from either the Talon Company or the Regulators at each of the hit squad (letter C) encounter spots. (Note that besides the spots marked on the nine zone maps, there are some places in the D.C. metro ruins interior regions where these encounters will happen.)
It'll be the Talon Company that attacks you if your karma is in the "good" or "very good" range and you don't have the Contract Killer perk, and it'll be the Regulators if your karma is in the "evil" or "very evil" range and you don't have the Lawbringer perk. If your karma is in the middle/neutral range, you won't be able to get these encounters to happen until it gets into the good or evil range. (Similarly for good characters with the Contract Killer perk and evil characters with the Lawbringer perk.)
Many of these encounters are set to happen when you exit a building or underground metro area, so expect to meet the hit squad on the way out, not on the way in. If you plan ahead, you can set some mines around so that the hit squad will hopefully get blown up when you exit. Otherwise, turn around and go right back inside. The hit squad will probably follow you in, but if they manage to kill you, just restore the autosave that was made when you went back in, and they'll stay outside. You can then plant some mines around and lure them back inside to get blown up. (If you don't want to even try to fight them, lead them inside, then go back outside and restore the autosave.)
