Fallout 3 Hints
The Cave Fungus Trade
of 11: The only place in the game where you can get cave fungus (which reduces rads while restoring HP) is in the caverns of Little Lamplight (location 11 on the Zone 4 Map).
of 11: Enter the Lamplight Caverns area and get Mayor MacCready to open the gate that he's guarding.
of 11: To do that, use the Child at Heart option (if you have that perk), pass a tough Speech Challenge, or do the "Rescue from Paradise" misc. quest.
of 11: Once you're in, you can find two portions of cave fungus lying around in the main Lamplight Caverns area.
of 11: To get more, you'll have to negotiate with the residents.
of 11: Start by talking to Lucy, who's the local doctor. She can often be found in the Little Lamplight Office Building, which is near the front gate.
of 11: Ask her how everyone here keeps healthy, then say that the fungus sounds useful.
of 11: She'll tell you that a trade could be arranged if Mayor MacCready approves.
of 11: Find MacCready and talk to him about the cave fungus to get a couple of options.
of 11: One of them is to pass a tough Speech Challenge to bully MacCready into giving you 10 portions of cave fungus.
of 11: However, it's better to say that you'll bring in supplies to trade for the fungus. (Especially since bullying MacCready will cause several Lamplight merchants to refuse you service.)
