Fallout 3 Hints
The Technology Trade
of 8: Go to Fort Independence (location 4 on the Zone 8 Map) and find Defender Morgan under the bridge near the fort
of 8: As you approach, a couple of raiders will appear and attack, so help her shoot them down (or just hide behind her sandbag wall).
of 8: Talk to her after they're dead and ask about collecting technology for the outcasts.
of 8: She'll refer you to Protector Casdin, so go wait for him next to the locked fence gate (or pick it open if you can for bonus XP).
of 8: Talk to Casdin about trading items to learn that the outcasts want various technology items.
of 8: Specifically, they'll trade for any type of power armor or energy weapon (except the unique ones), plus sensor modules and scrap metal.
of 8: When you trade something in, you can choose to get 5.56mm rounds (for assault rifles), frag grenades, stimpaks, or radaway items. How many you get will depend on what item you traded in.
of 8: Once you trade enough stuff with Casdin, you'll get a new dialogue option about him trusting you. After you use it, you'll be able to enter and loot Fort Independence without any of the outcasts turning hostile. (Though you'll still have to lockpick your way into the fort, or pickpocket an access key from Casdin or Morgan.)
