Fallout 3 Hints

The Lost Initiate

  • 1 of 10: You can do this undocumented quest in the Falls Church region inside the D.C. metro ruins. See the D.C. Ruins Interior Regions to find out how to get there.
  • 2 of 10: Enter from the Marigold Station or the Falls Church/Mason Dst Metro area, then quickly help the two Brotherhood of Steel guys who are fighting super mutants nearby. You need Paladin Hoss to survive, and it would help if his companion did, too.
  • 3 of 10: That can be very difficult to accomplish, since they'll probably run off to fight more super mutants when the ones in the starting area are all dead. You should quicksave right before entering the region so you can quickrestore and try again if necessary.
  • 4 of 10: Ideally, the Brotherhood guys will stay in the starting area after the mutants in it are dead, or will at least run over toward the covered bridge to the south that leads to the building that you'll need to be visiting soon. Run ahead of them and take the brunt of the super mutant attacks as much as you can. (It would help if you had a follower along.)
  • 5 of 10: When it's safe, ask Paladin Hoss what's happening to learn that a Brotherhood initiate was separated from them by super mutants, and is hiding in a nearby building.
  • 6 of 10: Ask what's in it for you to be offered a 100-caps reward, then follow Hoss as he runs over toward a building with a big red "ENTRANCE" sign over its door. Be sure to quickly kill off any super mutants you encounter on the way.
  • 7 of 10: After the area around the building is clear, enter it and explore it carefully, killing every super mutant and disarming every trap you come across.
  • 8 of 10: In the hallway north of the large central office area, go through the door in the north wall to find the cowering initiate.
  • 9 of 10: Talk to him about what happened, then fix his jammed gun if your Small Guns skill is high enough.
  • 10 of 10: Thankfully, you won't meet any new enemies on the way back out, so report to Hoss to get your reward of 250 XP (and 100 caps if you negotiated for that).
