Fallout 3 Hints

Enter the caves below and destroy Harold's Heart.

  • 1 of 15: Go through the wooden gate that leads back to Oasis, then turn left.
  • 2 of 15: Move along until you reach the spot where Tree Father Birch and Leaf Mother Laurel are standing.
  • 3 of 15: Approach them and wait for them to talk to you. You'll discover that they disagree on what should be done about the Harold situation.
  • 4 of 15: After you finish talking to both of them, you'll have liniment and sap items, plus the "(Optional) Apply Laurel's Liniment to Harold's Heart ..." and "(Optional) Apply Birch's Sap to Harold's Heart and stop his growth" objectives.
  • 5 of 15: Talk to Branchtender Cypress, who should be standing nearby, and ask him for the key to the caves.
  • 6 of 15: Go through the fence gate that leads to the Oasis Caverns area, then start exploring, ready to fight mirelurks as you encounter them.
  • 7 of 15: Move down the tunnel until you come to an area with a stream, then stay on the ledge as you move alongside of it.
  • 8 of 15: When you reach the big "lake" room, finish off all the mirelurks in there, then dive into the radioactive water.
  • 9 of 15: Quickly swim for the underwater passage to the south, then go along it until you can get out of the water.
  • 10 of 15: Jump over some rubble and move along the cave tunnel until you come to the door to the Sunken Chambers area.
  • 11 of 15: Just ahead is a path split. Go left to get some supplies (including a stealth boy and a Medicine skill book), then return to the split and go the other way.
  • 12 of 15: Move along the passage, watching out for a mirelurk king in the area just past the large left-side pond. (Note that the pond includes a mini nuke on an underwater rock.)
  • 13 of 15: Look for supplies (including another stealth boy on an ammo box) next to two skeletons in the king's area, then go through the south-side opening that leads to a large chamber with heart-beating noises in it.
  • 14 of 15: Go over to the large beating heart that's among all the roots, and quicksave before you activate it.
  • 15 of 15: When you do, you'll have the options to destroy the heart, apply the sap to it, or apply the liniment to it.
