Fallout 3 Hints
Helping the Mechanist
of 14: Go to the blue mail dropbox at the west end of town, then go straight SW to find the start of a path that leads up to the Robot Repair Center building.
of 14: Watch for hostiles in the parking lot (there may or may not be any), then find the doors near the NW corner of the building that lead inside.
of 14: Turn left after entering and shoot down a robot that's in the large office room to the west. After it's down, check the SW corner office cubicle to find a locked box under the desk that contains six pulse grenades, which are great to use against hostile robots.
of 14: Return to the entry room and go north past a large doorway, then turn left to find an elevator to the Mechanist's Forge area. If you can't pick the hard lock on it, you'll have to go the long way around and find a door to the same area.
of 14: Go on north past the locked elevator to find a large room with several robots and turrets in it. Go up the stairs to the upper floor, then find the door in the west wall.
of 14: Past that door are two more doors. Go through the left one, then move along the walkway to find a door that leads to the Mechanist's Forge door.
of 14: Once in the forge, you'll appear to be in a dead-end room with no Mechanist.
of 14: Quicksave before you enter the Mechanist's room, then approach him to get him to talk to you and give you three options.
of 14: The first choice is an attempt to talk him into giving up his identity as the Mechanist. If you learned his real name in town and can pass a very hard Speech Challenge, he'll give you his suit and leave.
of 14: The third choice is to provoke him into a fight. He'll go down easily, but his protectrons won't.
of 14: However, the second choice of helping him get rid of the AntAgonizer is by far the best, since it's the only way you can get the unique Protectron's Gaze energy weapon.
of 14: Say that you want to go put an end to the AntAgonizer once and for all, which will cause her and some giant ants to attack the building.
