Half-Life 2: Episode One Hints
How can I fix the elevator?
of 9: After grabbing the supplies that are to the right of it, do as Alyx suggests and trace the sparking wire that leads off from the top of the elevator.
of 9: WARNING: Zombies of various sorts may periodically spawn and attack in small numbers while you're trying to fix the elevator. This has happened during many of my recent playthrus, though I don't know why. If it happens to you, remember to shine the flashlight on zombies so Alyx can kill them, and use your shotgun to help her out when zombines appear.
of 9: The wire you're tracing seems to go into a small supply room with a padlock on the door, but if you remove the lock (the gravity gun can do it easily), you'll see that the wire moves on past that room.
of 9: Go around the fencing and explosive barrel to find that the wire continues on past a small fenced-in supply area with dead zombies in it.
of 9: TIP: To get those supplies, use the gravity gun to first smash the supply crates and then lift each item carefully over the top of the fence or through the gap in one corner of it.
of 9: You'll soon come to metal double doors with a large wooden beam bolting them shut on your side.
of 9: To make the doors openable, lift the beam up and out of the way with the gravity gun.
of 9: Quicksave your game, since there'll be a couple of headcrabs and a grenade-waving zombine in the room just beyond the doors.
