The Orange Box: Half-Life 2: Episode Two Hints
The Trick Way
1 of 14: You have to drop down to the building's floor as soon as you can in order to keep the influx of zombies from being infinite.
2 of 14: So the trick is in getting back up onto the metal platform after dropping to the floor.
3 of 14: To do that, you'll need a large rectangular wooden crate, plus a smaller square one.
4 of 14: There's a square one in the nearby area, close to the large red storage container that has supplies in it.
5 of 14: Take it up the ladder and drop it somewhere on the building's roof. (It can be kind of a pain to take up the ladder, but it's not too bad if you hold it up above you as you ascend.)
6 of 14: The larger crate is going to be a lot harder to find. You haven't come across any of those since you dropped down into the room next to the one with the barnacle cluster in it.
7 of 14: Go all the way back there and jump onto a barrel near the big shaft that you (perhaps) rescued two supply crates from earlier.
8 of 14: You should be able to pull down a large crate from the floor above easily enough, but now you have to get it all the way to the zombie-infested building's rooftop. Doing so is very tedious, but doable.
9 of 14: The hardest part is getting it up the ladder and onto the rooftop. You may have to stand back a ways from the ladder and try to shoot the crate over the fence so that it lands on the building's roof. (Save before you try this.)
10 of 14: Once both crates are on the roof, drop the bigger one down through a roof hole so that it lands on the floor next to the metal platform. (Also save before trying this, since it can be fairly hard to do right.)
11 of 14: Grab onto the smaller crate, then drop down onto the metal platform, and then to the floor.
12 of 14: Quickly adjust the position of the large crate if you have to, then put the small crate on top of it so that you can jump back up onto the metal platform using the crates.
13 of 14: That's a *big* pain, but it pays off. You can just wait on the platform for Alyx to shoot all the zombies for you. (They won't try to knock your platform over since you already hit the "I fell to the floor" event trigger.)
14 of 14: NOTE: Instead of going all the way back for the big crate, you could get back up onto the metal platform with just the smaller crate and the supply crate that starts out on the platform, but I found that a bit harder to do.
