2 of 6: Drop the gnome on the large wooden platform you emerge on to make sure the antlion guardian and his guard pal don't knock it around during the upcoming battle.
3 of 6: After you finish the guardian fight, go get the gnome and drop it near the nonfunctional lift.
4 of 6: Fix the lift, then move the gnome into it before you press the button to ascend.
5 of 6: As soon as you do press the button, pick the gnome up to make sure it doesn't bounce out of the lift.
