The Orange Box: Half-Life 2: Episode Two Hints

Hot PotatOwned (HLX_KILL_SOLDIER_WITHHISGRENADE)

  • 1 of 7: To get this achievement, you'll have to kill a Combine soldier with his own grenade.
  • 2 of 7: The way to do that is to grab his grenade with the gravity gun after he throws it, then carefully throw it back at him so that it'll kill him when it explodes.
  • 3 of 7: The first opportunity for that is in Chapter 4's Section 2: Combine Advisor and Chopper, when several soldiers attack the barn.
  • 4 of 7: The best spot to wait for grenades to be tossed at you is next to the fence door that was padlocked when you first found it.
  • 5 of 7: This is especially effective if you barricaded the walkway near the barn exit. Several soldiers will be stuck down there, and will toss a lot of grenades your way.
  • 6 of 7: You'll have to keep peeking out past the fence door and letting the soldiers see you in order to get them to throw grenades, and it's hard to pick up a grenade and toss it back before it explodes. It's also *very* hard to throw it just right so that it kills a soldier. Add to that the problem that the tossed-back grenades will probably wreck your barricade.
  • 7 of 7: You'll want to quicksave before you first peek around the corner past the fence door, and then quickrestore and try again if you can't get this achievement without taking too much damage.
