Half-Life 2 Hints

Zombie Combat Tips

  • 1 of 6: As soon as the zombies get up, immediately retreat back behind a section of fencing.
  • 2 of 6: This is to protect you if one of the zombies knocks a barrel toward you. That can hurt if it hits you!
  • 3 of 6: Get out the SMG and shoot the zombies through the fence, retreating if they get close before you can finish them off.
  • 4 of 6: It's best to always shoot zombies in the head so that when the zombie dies, its controlling headcrab dies, too. If you shoot a zombie anywhere else, the headcrab may survive.
  • 5 of 6: You could crowbar-whack the zombies in the head if you move backwards constantly to keep them from getting too close to you. There's plenty of SMG ammo in this area, but remember the crowbar tactic in case you encounter zombies later in the game when you're low on ammo.
  • 6 of 6: Also, you could get a preemptive strike off by shooting the leftmost zombie in the head with the pistol as soon as you see him in the distance. That can be a big help if you use the pistol's secret secondary fire mode to shoot him with a bunch of bullets at once, instantly killing him. (See the 9mm Pistol general info.)
