Half-Life 2 Hints
First Generator
1 of 5: The first generator room is just past the two ground turrets that you destroyed near the top of the stairwell.
2 of 5: Go in and look for supplies (including health and armor stations on a small wall near the generator), then move toward the generator to get Barney to suggest a way to disable it.
3 of 5: Get out the gravity gun and blast the generator's bouncy energy core with a regular-fire burst.
4 of 5: Then get ready for some Combine soldiers to come up the stairwell soon after you hear the dropship fly overhead.
5 of 5: NOTE: You can prevent these soldiers from ever appearing by never going near enough to the generator to trigger Barney's little speech. (You can blast the energy core while standing near the health station, and you can carefully access the health and armor stations without going too close to the generator.)
