Half-Life 2 Hints

How can I cross the electrified fence?

  • 1 of 13: Look around to see what might be causing the fence to be electrified.
  • 2 of 13: There's a wire passing through the fence and over to an upper window of the nearby building.
  • 3 of 13: There's nothing you can do down here to turn the electricity off, so you might as well go shut off the other flame barrier so you can enter the building and look around.
  • 4 of 13: TIP: If you can spare a frag grenade, toss one through the window that the electric line goes in to kill off the two poison headcrabs in there.
  • 5 of 13: Head into the building and use the gravity gun to throw explosive barrels and gas canisters to destroy the zombies that shamble down the stairs from the generator machine area. (Or lead them outside and start the gas and flames going again to burn them.)
  • 6 of 13: TIP: Once the generator floor is clear of hostiles, there's a secret area you might want to go for.
  • 7 of 13: Near the generator area, find a set of stairs that's blocked by large furniture.
  • 8 of 13: Shoot the explosive barrel you can see past the furniture, then finish clearing it away with the crowbar or gravity gun so you can climb up to the second floor.
  • 9 of 13: TIP: When you're halfway up the stairs, shoot the explosive barrel at the top to blow up a zombie and a headcrab or two.
  • 10 of 13: Exploring the second floor, you'll soon come to the room where the fence's electrical line is attached to a gadget next to the window.
  • 11 of 13: TIP: If you didn't use my earlier tip about grenading this room from outside, there'll be two poison headcrabs in it to deal with. You can toss a grenade in there now, or you can use the gravity gun to shove the furniture around to squash them.
  • 12 of 13: Use the switch next to the window to turn off the electricity and make the fence safe to climb over.
  • 13 of 13: WARNING: Watch out for three more poison headcrabs on your way out of the building.
