1 of 4: You can rest safely in the airship after you destroy the boring beetle nest.
2 of 4: Each boring beetle you kill will yield a takeable shell. You can have Oswald make light-weight plate armor out of the shell by talking to him about it. (Note that it takes time to make the armor and does cost money.)
3 of 4: Oswald can also make various cold-resisting wearable items out of winter wolf pelts and yeti pelts. You can find several yetis near the wrecked caravan that's a ways north of the airship crash site. As for winter wolves, you could have gotten one pelt in Chapter 1 on the Goblin Plains, and you can get lots more from the Ice Temple.
4 of 4: There are lots of traps scattered about the foothills, especially down the three paths leading away from the airship crash site. Have your best searcher and disarmer handle them for you.
