Icewind Dale II Hints

Investigate the suspicious suicide of Zaem Astyr.

  • 1 of 12: You start on this quest by exploring the library in the west part of level 2 and finding a book entitled "Diary of Zaem Astyr."
  • 2 of 12: Talk to the librarian, Cedrin Zil, about it.
  • 3 of 12: He'll tell you that Astyr is supposed to have committed suicide, but it may have been faked by one of his invisible test subjects that he was working on.
  • 4 of 12: Zil will say that there are two other people who doubt the authenticity of the suicide. Maybe you should go talk to them.
  • 5 of 12: One of them, Kav Lathram, is in the laboratory in the NW room on level 2.
  • 6 of 12: Talk to him about Astyr to learn that he restored some burned notes that he's sure are fake. However, he claims not to know what Astyr was working on, saying that only Saablic Tan would know.
  • 7 of 12: When you talk to Jaebrilla at the north end of level 4, she'll also say that only Saablic Tan would know of Astyr's work.
  • 8 of 12: So how did Cedrin Zil know about it?
  • 9 of 12: Return to Zil after talking to Kav and Jaebrilla and accuse him of the crime to get a roundabout confession.
  • 10 of 12: After hearing all he has to say, go tell Vese Nejj in the red wizard room (east side of level 2) about it to get Zil punished.
  • 11 of 12: You can then go and claim several magic items from Zil's body.
  • 12 of 12: You can also get bonus XP by reporting Zil's punishment to Kav, Jaebrilla, and Astyr's invisible creature. (See the "Help the workers with the food shortage" optional quest to learn more about the creature.)
