Cannibals in the Inn

  • 1 of 11: You can get this quest right after getting the "Fox Hunt" subquest.
  • 2 of 11: To find out a bit more about why the innkeeper is so eager for the Forest Shadow be killed, find Henpecked Hou on a higher floor and talk to him.
  • 3 of 11: Ask about the forest and the Forest Shadow until you get the option to ask him what he's hinting at.
  • 4 of 11: Succeed at a conversational skill to get some XP, then go ask the innkeeper about the Mother.
  • 5 of 11: He'll reveal that everyone in the inn except Hou is a cannibal in service of a demon that the Forest Spirit is holding captive.
  • 6 of 11: After you talk to him a bit, you'll have to choose whether to provoke him into attacking or agree to help him.
  • 7 of 11: If you're planning to help the Forest Spirit, choose to attack the cannibals. There are a lot of them, but once the innkeeper goes down, the rest are fairly easy.
  • 8 of 11: NOTE: Killing them off cancels the "Fox Hunt" subquest.
  • 9 of 11: Henpecked Hou will be grateful for the cannibals' destruction, and will offer to teach you the Drunken Master style. If you accept, you'll be able to learn it by practicing on a ghost.
  • 10 of 11: If you don't kill the cannibals right away, you'll have to kill them later when you return to destroy the demon. Or if you kill the Forest Spirit instead, you can return to get a reward from the innkeeper.
  • 11 of 11: TIP: If you kill the cannibals at any time, you can then raid a bamboo cask that's near the green star marked "backroom" on the area map. The cask contains an Ultimate Scholar Gem (Mind +12), which is a *very* good (and unique) gem.
