Journey to the Center of the Earth Hints
After the 1st weighing, mine were EVEN. What next?
1 of 6: You should be able to deduce where the unique ball is hiding.
2 of 6: It is NOT any of the balls you just weighed. (Remember to reset the scales by clicking on the center lever again. Lights should go out, but number will remain.)
3 of 6: Results after First Weighing: Known to be alike: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 -- Remove all of them from the trays Unknown: 9, 10, 11 and 12 (the odd ball is one of these)
For your 2nd trial, weigh 2 balls against each other. While you -could- weigh all of the Unknowns, you'll only be guessing after the 2nd Weighing. So, put 3 Unknowns and 1 Known -- 2 on each tray.
To keep following my solution, chose 9, 10 (Left Tray) and 11, 8 (Right Tray). When ready, click on the lever to complete the Second Weighing.
Click on more hints to learn what to do -- no matter what results you obtained.
4 of 6: If both trays are EVEN, it is easy to decide which ball is not like the others. You'll still need to weigh it against one of the known balls before you can actually put it in inventory, though.
Click on the next hints if your trays are UNEVEN after the 2nd weighing.
5 of 6: If EITHER tray is HEAVY (in the down position), the unique ball is already on one of the trays -- and the unweighed ball can be ruled out.
6 of 6: Now you know 12 is okay and so is 8 (from the previous trial). So, it must be 9, 10 or 11. Jot down which side is heavy and the balls that are in it. Then reset the scales by clicking on the center lever.
For the 3rd Weighing, weigh just 2 balls against each other. (It doesn't really matter which, but choose 9 on the left and 10 on the right to keep following my solution.)
After the 3rd weighing you are to pick the different ball based on the results. (Click on your choice to put it in inventory. Do NOT click on the lever! If you do, you'll have to start the puzzle all over again! After the ball is in inventory, Exit the screen by clicking on the upper left icon.)
