Keepsake Hints
How do I solve the puzzle in the Solarium classroom?
of 13: The puzzle consists of three planters. Clicking on a planter will make a plant grow. A second click makes a new plant grow in place of the first one, etc.
of 13: The goal is to find three compatible plants to grow together.
of 13: Some plants don't like to grow with any other plant. Other plants don't like to grow with one or two of the other plants.
of 13: To learn which plants do and don't like each other, you will need to study the plant tapestry located in the library. Note: The final hint under the "What do I need to do in the library?" hints will help you find the plant tapestry. Once you have looked at the plant tapestry, an image of the tapestry will be stored in your documents inventory.
of 13: The first four sets of plants on the tapestry are illustrating which plants do not like growing together.
of 13: The next three single plants on the tapestry are illustrating which plants do not like growing with any other plant.
of 13: The last set of plants shows a two-plant combination of plants that only likes growing with each other. By the process of elimination, you should be able to determine three plants that *do* like growing together, without combining them with incompatible plants.
of 13: It can be helpful to create a chart showing which plants don't like growing together and which plants do. For example, you could mark down that red does not like growing with blue or white, but can grow with green or violet.
of 13: By studying the chart of plant compatibility, you can eliminate all impossible three plant options. In the above example, Red likes growing with either green or violet -- but by studying the plant chart further, it is clear that green does not like growing with violet. Therefore, it would not be possible to create a three plant combination that uses red, since the plants compatible with red cannot grow together to form a compatible three-plant combination.
of 13: Now that you know which plants you would like to grow, the trick will be to actually get the correct combination to grow. It would seem that the various different plants that could grow in the solarium, actually prefer different seasons.
of 13: As long as the season stays the same, only a limited number of plants can grow. To get other plants to grow, it will be necessary to grow them in a different season.
