How do I reach the balcony for the Trial of Wisdom?

  • 1 of 10: You won't be able to reach the correct balcony without help from Zak.  However, he won' t be able to help as long as he is a wolf.
  • 2 of 10: Once Zak is a cat, Lydia will need to convince him to help.
  • 3 of 10: Once Lydia has convinced Zak to climb out the kitchen window, she will automatically go back to the balcony behind the second trial door.  The next step is to figure out how to get Lydia to the other balcony.
  • 4 of 10: Did you notice that there is a lever near Lydia -- and a similar one near Zak?  Have you tried to pull the lever by Lydia?
  • 5 of 10: Once Zak has returned in the form of a cat, he too, can pull levers.  To switch between Lydia and Zak, click on a lever and select the second option.
  • 6 of 10: There are four levers that can change the stairs into walkways (or walkways into stairs) -- one lever per balcony.  Each of the four levers works a little differently than the other three.
  • 7 of 10: The goal is to bring Lydia from her balcony (located at the bottom left, as seen when you watch the stairs change) to the opposite balcony (at the bottom right, as seen when you watch the stairs change).  Zak starts out at the top right balcony.
  • 8 of 10: It can help to label each of the balconies -- 1 (top left), 2 (top right), 3 (bottom left), and 4 (bottom right); then make notes of what happens to the stairs or walkway when each lever is pulled.  For example, when Lydia first walks in the room (on balcony 3), the stairs are positioned at 1, 4 (between the top left and bottom right balcony) -- when she pulls the lever on balcony 3; the stairs change to a walkway at 1, 2 (between the top left and top right balcony).  In short: "lever 3 -- 1, 4 to 1, 2".  Pulling this lever again, with the walkway at 1, 2 doesn't do anything.  In short: "lever 3 -- 1, 2 = nothing".  Go ahead and write out what each of the other levers does (or at least the levers that are accessible at first).
  • 9 of 10: Keep in mind that what a lever does can vary, based on what position the stairs/walkway are in when the lever is pulled.  However, what a specific lever does, is always consistent for a specific position of the walkway.
  • 10 of 10: Once you have a good idea of every possible movement that each lever can do (based on all the possible stair/walkway positions), you should be able to figure out how to move Lydia and Zak, and the correct lever pulls to bring them *both* to the final balcony with the Trial of Wisdom.  Remember that it may sometimes be necessary to move either Zak or Lydia to a new balcony without having them pull a lever before switching to the other character.
