The Elder Scrolls IV: Knights of the Nine Hints
The Sword of the Crusader
of 15: Sir Lathon isn't an unkillable companion, so you'll want to wear the Gauntlets of the Crusader and use the Merciful Touch lesser power to heal him when he gets injured.
of 15: Also note that you can talk to him at any time when there are no hostiles around and tell him to wait where he is. Use this if you have to in some cases where he rushes ahead and gets himself killed.
of 15: The starting cave area is small and easy, and you should have no trouble reaching the big wooden gate that leads to Underpall Keep.
of 15: There are several areas you can travel to from the keep, but the one you want is the Reflecting Chamber.
of 15: Its door is at the south end of the long passage that starts just west of the short passage you start out in.
of 15: In the Reflecting Chamber, Sir Lathon will take the lead, so follow him to the room with Sir Roderic's body.
of 15: Save and prepare for a very tough fight before you go through the wooden door in that room's south wall.
of 15: A powerful wraith named Lord Berich Vlindrel is in the cave beyond, and you're going to have to kill it to get the sword you're after.
of 15: Equip a weapon that does fire damage (like the Mace of the Crusader) and whack on the wraith until it goes down.
of 15: After it's dead, pick up the Sword of the Crusader that it dropped.
of 15: WARNING: The sword is most horribly cursed, as Sir Roderic feared, so don't try to equip it yet.
of 15: After you loot the cave of treasure (including from an underwater treasure chest), head back out the way you came.
of 15: When you get outside, travel to Cheydinhal and enter its Great Chapel of Arkay, ready to fight three more of those auroran creatures.
of 15: TIP: If they're too much for you (like if you've been cursed by the tainted Sword of the Crusader), run outside so they'll follow you and get attacked by the town guards.
of 15: After they're all down, use the Altar of the Nine to get the Sword of the Crusader rededicated and made safe to use. (And to get yourself uncursed if you equipped the sword too soon.)
