The Elder Scrolls IV: Knights of the Nine Hints

How exactly does it work?

  • 1 of 7: Every time you hit an enemy with the razor, a random number between 0 and 99 is generated. If it's less than or equal to 5% of your Luck stat, you get the instant kill.
  • 2 of 7: That means the higher your Luck stat is, the better. See the hints about influencing the outcome of a fight in the Arena in the main Oblivion hint file for some tips on boosting Luck. (Also check the "Lucky Razor" Development Strategy in its general tips section for some advanced razor-specific tips.)
  • 3 of 7: However, note that there's a max of 10 on the "5% of Luck" thing, so getting your Luck above 200 wouldn't help.
  • 4 of 7: Even if your Luck stat was 200 when you hit someone with the razor, there'd still be only an 11% chance per hit of instantly killing him. However, several hits in a row would practically guarantee a quick kill.
  • 5 of 7: But remember that even if you get the roll for the instant kill effect, it might be resisted, absorbed, or reflected if your target has any Resist Magic, Spell Absorption, or Reflect Spell effects on him.
  • 6 of 7: WARNING: If the instant kill effect is reflected, it'll kill you! Thankfully, very few enemies have any level of Reflect Spell on them, and you'll be safe even then if your Resist Magic and/or Spell Absorption is high.
  • 7 of 7: Also remember that the razor's instant-kill effect won't ever work on essential characters. Nothing's allowed to kill them!
