LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy Hints
What's the Minikit Bonus?
of 8: It's a lot like the Character Bonus, in that your goal is to get 1,000,000 studs in 5 minutes or less. Again, score multiplier extras aren't allowed, and while you can keep playing once the 5 minutes is up to get some extra practice, you won't get the gold brick rewards unless you get the studs in the maximum time allowed.
of 8: One slight difference between the two modes is that it's a little harder to unlock some of the vehicles for this mode. As the name implies, the vehicles come from minikits -- what you get by finding the 10 canisters in any particular level.
of 8: It helps to have a fast ship, so if some of the options are still locked out, and you're having trouble, you may want to go back and replay some of the chapters in Free Play mode to build those minikits first. You don't need to get every minikit to start, but it helps to have a few good choices first. Fighters like TIE Fighters or X-Wings generally worked best for me.
of 8: As with Character Bonus mode, you will find purple studs, each worth 10,000 points. These often come from using torpedoes on appropriate targets within the particular level. You'll need to see the hints inside each episode's section to find out where those targets are, but as a general rule, firing torpedoes at purple targets as often as you're allowed is generally a good idea.
of 8: You might find it helpful to turn on the Infinite Torpedoes extra, so that you don't have to waste precious time flying over the torpedo dispensers.
of 8: Invincibility is also a good extra to have here, so you don't lose studs and time by dying.
of 8: Even if you go with a fast ship, it is possible to fly *too* fast -- you might shoot a destructible object but also fly over it before all the studs finish coming out of it. If you're having trouble getting to your goal, it might be worth slowing down just a tiny bit, so that you can capture all of the studs before they disappear. You may find yourself collecting more studs if you go a tiny bit slower, instead of having to loop back constantly.
of 8: In general, though, the best way to get through these bonus levels is practice. I personally found them more difficult to complete than the character bonuses, and had to go over the levels several times to get a feel for the layout and where all the studs were. Keep at it, and you should see your time improving with practice.
