LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy Hints
How do I get all of these minikit canisters?
of 8: Each of the main levels will have 10 minikit canisters. When you collect all 10 canisters on a level, you'll be rewarded with a built minikit, which you can see by walking around outside the Cantina. You will also be able to use the minikits in the Minikit Bonus level for each episode.
of 8: Before you spend too much time trying to collect these canisters, it's worth noting that some of them are generally only available when you play a chapter on Free Play mode. There's usually at least one canister -- often more -- that requires a character with a special ability that you don't have in Story mode.
of 8: In particular, you'll generally need to use the Dark Force at least once per chapter before you get the 10th canister, except on the all-vehicle levels. There's no reward -- unless you count your own satisfaction -- for getting the first few canisters until you collect all 10 on a level. That means you may want to wait until you've unlocked at least one of these characters before worrying too much about the minikits. It may still be worth playing Free Play mode if you want to collect True Jedi status, or need some extra studs, but it should be possible to get both True Jedi and the 10 canisters in one Free Play round.
of 8: Also note that once you've found a canister, the game will remember that you found it, and it won't appear again when you play through a level again. You may sometimes see empty crates and other places showing where the canister once was, but you'll only need to find each canister once -- whether that's in Story mode or Free Play mode, or even multiple plays of one of those modes.
of 8: Keep in mind that once you're in Free Play mode, you can toggle between characters whenever you wish, using the toggle keys. In Story mode, you had to walk up to another character that was visible on-screen already and press the switch character button. But in Free Play, you can press the toggle button to change between any of the characters that are available to you.
of 8: This will come in handy to help you "tag team" to reach places that one single character could never reach by him/her/itself. For example, you might use R2-D2's floating ability to get over a large gap, and then transform R2 into a human to build a stack of bricks in that same spot.
of 8: Beyond this, read the hints for individual chapters. These will tell you how to claim the canisters. Since you only get credit once you've found the 10th canister, I'll always go through the locations of the canisters in the order that they appear in Free Play mode. It's quite likely that you will find at least some canisters in Story mode as well, but it doesn't matter when you find a canister -- just as long as you find it somewhere.
of 8: Find all 10 canisters in each of the 18 chapters, and you'll get one little extra reward -- Slave 1 is unlocked for you in Free Play vehicle levels.
