Might and Magic IX Hints
This Yanmir guy sure is huge! How can I defeat him?
of 11: If your party is very, very tough and well-equipped, you can actually kill Yanmir in regular combat. However, you should *NOT* do this, as the game wasn't programmed to count this as fulfilling the main quest that sends you after the giant. If you've already done it, you can still reset the area and do things right by using my Minisaves cheat to reset Yanmir's Fort.
of 11: You need to fully explore the fort and find a way to trick him.
of 11: Start by exploring the human-sized SE region of the fort.
of 11: Find the Thrall living quarters room that has what looks like an empty bookshelf with a barred window above it on the west wall.
of 11: Use it to open up a secret passage.
of 11: Follow the passage down some stairs and you'll end up in a tunnel that's directly under the hallway that's south of Yanmir's throne room.
of 11: You should see several diagonal wooden support beams.
of 11: Shoot them!
of 11: There are two in the very back that you can't destroy, but there are six that you can and should shoot to pieces.
of 11: Now all you need is for Yanmir to walk across that weak-support hallway, and he'll go plunging out of the fort and to his death.
of 11: You could just wait or explore elsewhere in the fort until he stomps across it on his own, but if you don't want to wait, you can go lure him into chasing you down the hall. Just make sure you don't go down with him!
