Is there a safe way to raid the black chests in here?
  • 1 of 8: There doesn't seem to be. The dragon always shows up when you enter the cave, even though he's not supposed to until you've completed a certain quest.
  • 2 of 8: However, you can slowly but safely make your way around the perimeter of the cave in turn-based combat mode. The dragon probably won't notice or attack you. See the General Combat Tips for more info on exploiting turn-based mode.
  • 3 of 8: Unfortunately, that method of nabbing artifacts is a very slow and tedious one. There's a much better way you can use once you have an Elemental Magic master.
  • 4 of 8: The trigger for the dragon's arrival is you appearing in the cave entrance. If you have the Lloyd's Beacon spell, you can get around that little detail.
  • 5 of 8: The first time you enter the cave, the dragon will appear; there's no avoiding it. So use the above turn-based mode tip to sneak your way around to one of the black chests. Once you're there, loot it and set your beacon. Then loot the other black chest and leave (via beacon or sneaking out on foot).
  • 6 of 8: REMEMBER: Any time you enter the Dragon's Lair and exit again without looting both black chests, you lose an artifact or two that you can never get back. See the link below for more details.
  • 7 of 8: Once you set your beacon and leave, recall that beacon to enter the cave again. You'll be right next to one of the black chests, and you can loot both chests without triggering an appearance by the dragon.
  • 8 of 8: And since the area regenerates every time you enter it, you can keep beaconing in and gaining artifact items from the treasure chests until you catch the limit. Love it!
