Combat Tips
  • 1 of 11: The best tip is to have the Bloodmoon expansion (or Game of the Year edition) installed so that you can get the Ebony Arrows of Slaying from the hollow treestump in Thirsk. Those super-magical arrows can kill even Vivec in just one shot.
  • 2 of 11: The next best tip is to be wearing King Helseth's royal signet ring from the Mournhold area in the Tribunal expansion. After making Vivec hostile, you can just stand and let him kill himself via reflected spells.
  • 3 of 11: If you can do neither of the above, then here are the best offensive and defensive tips I know of.
  • 4 of 11: Most importantly, preserve your health by constantly dodging around the pillars in the palace so that Vivec's spells can't hit you.
  • 5 of 11: It would also be a good idea to have an item equipped that constantly restores health, even if it's just one or two points per second.
  • 6 of 11: As for offense, it's best to use the terrific Black Hands Dagger that you can get by finishing Eno Hlaalu's special duties for the Morag Tong faction.
  • 7 of 11: Rush Vivec and hit him with it once, then dodge around the pillars while the Absorb Health effect drains his health and restores yours. (An ebony staff with a powerful Absorb Health effect can be made via enchanting that would be almost as good.)
  • 8 of 11: If you can go to Mournhold, you can do its misc. quest "The Thief" and get some great poisongrip arrows to use against Vivec (and many other creatures).
  • 9 of 11: Vivec can't reflect magicka at all, so there's no danger of you becoming poisoned or paralyzed from using poisongrip arrows on him. Once you manage to paralyze him, you can walk up to him and attack him repeatedly with your best heavy-hitting weapon.
  • 10 of 11: The Daedric Crescent also paralyzes enemies, so you might want to try it if you can't get the poisongrip arrows. See the following link to find out how to get the crescent.
  • 11 of 11: One last note is that Vivec's soul power is 1,000 points, so you might want to contrive to have the Soultrap spell on him when he dies. If you have Azura's Star in your inventory (it's the reward for Azura's Daedric Shrine Quest) and it's empty, the capture should work.
