Advanced Taunting Tips
- 1 of 4: If you're finding it hard to taunt people in a heavily populated area into attacking you so you can kill and loot them legally, try the taunt-bribe-taunt method. If a person's disposition toward you is 0, taunts will almost never work, and they almost never attack you if you say "goodbye" and wait. So taunt them until their disposition is near 0, then bribe it back up again so you can taunt them some more with a chance of success. You'll get all your bribe money back after you kill them. (But do save before trying this in case you can't taunt them into attacking even after using up all your money.)
- 2 of 4: If you find that a person you really want or need to kill right now can't be taunted successfully, another way to keep your bounty for killing him down is to anger him into attacking you by letting him catch you picking his pocket. Hold the Sneak key down and "activate" the person to attempt a pickpocketing. Keep trying until he catches you and attacks you. Killing him should then only get you a very small bounty, though any guards in the immediate vicinity will probably still come after you. (Note that this method doesn't always work, and seems to work much less reliably in recent patched versions of the game.)
- 3 of 4: One more taunt-related thing you can try is casting a powerful Frenzy spell on a person. You can buy a basic Frenzy Humanoid spell from Uleni Heleran in the Sadrith Mora Mages Guild, then use her spellmaking service to make a super-Frenzy spell with both magnitudes at 100 (leave duration at 1 and area at 0). That's a very cheap spell to make and cast, but your Illusion skill has to be fairly high to cast it successfully all the time. (To avoid that limitation, have an enchanter put the same spell on a "Cast When Used" item. See my Enchanting Tips for more info.) When you cast the spell, the person needs to be standing still, and you need to be right next to him. Even so, the spell doesn't always work the first time (try taunting the person and casting the spell several more times). Also, even if it does work and you let him strike the first blow, there's a small chance that you'll still be accused of a crime when you attack him.
- 4 of 4: As a last resort, you can have a weapon of your favorite type enchanted to cast Chameleon 100% on you whenever it strikes. Use a weapon that's high-quality enough that you can make the Chameleon last for at least 2 or 3 seconds. If you attack someone with that weapon while in Sneak mode, you can probably score a critical strike against him and avoid being seen and reported. You'll have to not miss with the first attack, and your Sneak skill will have to be fairly high. (As always, save right before each attempt.)
