The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Hints
I'm having trouble using the region maps to get places.
of 8: That's not surprising considering how huge and complicated the game is, and how simplified and scaled-down the maps necessarily are.
of 8: First of all, you need to understand that I divide up the island of Vvardenfell (which is the game world) differently from how the game does. It has funny-shaped regions that overlap and so on, and it's much easier to cut up the map into rectangular regions like they did in the old Might and Magic games. My Vvardenfell Map shows you how I made the divisions and named the regions.
of 8: Also, due to copyright and file size considerations, I couldn't use screen captures from the game or scanned-in maps from other sources in this hint file. In my simple four-color maps, no terrain or elevation is drawn in on the land sections, which would be useful in figuring out how to get from location to location.
of 8: The best way to use the maps is to locate a spot you know you can get to that's near where you're going, and then see what direction and approximately what distance your destination is from that spot. For example, on the Seyda Neen map you can see that location 2 is a short distance NW of location 1. So if you're at location 1 and want to go to location 2, then face NW and run along until you find what the map key tells you is at location 2.
of 8: TIP: Being able to levitate will be a great help when trying to cross rugged terrain. You can easily lose your sense of direction and end up not knowing where you are or which way to go when you have to go around too many things on foot. See the Fast Travel Magic Spells tips for more info.
of 8: TIP: Many times when you're sent on a quest to a remote or hard-to-find area, your destination or something near it will be marked on your in-game world map. It can be very handy to use the world map to see which way to go when you're still far away from your goal, and then switch to the local map to zero in on it when you're close.
of 8: Some versions of the UHS Reader for Windows may rescale the graphics and "scrunch" the numbers. If this is happening to you, first try turning off the graphics scaling. In versions 4.50 and later, select "Set Options" under the "Options" menu, go to the "Display" tab and turn off "Stretch graphics..." You can also view the maps online at the UHS website (www.uhs-hints.com) or reset your desktop resolution to 1024 by 768 or greater. (You can reset your desktop resolution by right-clicking on the Windows desktop, choosing "Properties," and then clicking on the "Settings" tab.)
of 8: As a last resort, you can use the information contained in the "Map Positional Coordinates" section in whatever game region you're in to teleport directly to your destination.
