The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Hints

How can I become a vampire?

  • 1 of 9: In the good old-fashioned, traditional way.
  • 2 of 9: Being bitten by one, that is.
  • 3 of 9: There are three different clans of vampires, and you can only join one of them in any one playthru of the game. Choose a clan, then check the Vampire Lair List to see where you can go to find vampires of that clan. (It's best to go to a lair that isn't the HQ or a renegade's lair.)
  • 4 of 9: It can be a real pain to let them beat up on you until you're infected (you'll get a message about contracting Porphyric Hemophilia) and still get away alive, but it is doable.
  • 5 of 9: That is, if you're not using the console's god mode cheat, and if you're not 100% resistant to disease. Note that completing the main quest "Clear out a Sixth House base" will make you immune to all diseases, so you can't become a vampire after doing it.
  • 6 of 9: Some races (Argonians, High Elves, Redguards, and Wood Elves) are resistant to disease, which will make it all the harder for them to contract the vampire disease.
  • 7 of 9: It does work like a disease, and it takes a few days to actually turn you into a vampire, so you can cure it with a Cure Disease potion, scroll, or spell if you change your mind before Becoming.
  • 8 of 9: You'll notice a new icon on your effects list at the bottom of the screen for the Porphyric Hemophilia. Keep it there for a few days and then sleep to become a vampire and get all the advantages and disadvantages that go along with it.
  • 9 of 9: Another important piece of advice is to get all the indices for the Propylon Chambers that you can before becoming a vampire. You can no longer use boats and striders, so you'll really appreciate the teleportation available in the strongholds.
