Myst III: Exile Hints

How do I get light to point at that plant?

  • 1 of 14: Go across a bridge plant that needs to be unrolled (but without an orange plant next to it).
  • 2 of 14: Once you've unrolled the plant, cross it and enter a hollowed-out tree. Climb up until the path forks -- one fork goes up, and one fork goes down.
  • 3 of 14: You want to take the fork that goes up.  This will lead you to an area with another one of those blue reflecting plants and a yellow "sunflower" plant.
  • 4 of 14: You can't aim the sunflower plant, but it's already pointing to the sac above the roots.
  • 5 of 14: You still need to work your way backwards to figure out how to light the sunflower.
  • 6 of 14: Experiment with all of the blue reflecting plants to find out which ones can see which other plants.
  • 7 of 14: The reflecting plant just above the sunflower is the only one that can point at the sunflower, so start by aiming that one.
  • 8 of 14: Then, head back down to the group of three blue plants (the ones you had to use to unroll the bridge to get here).
  • 9 of 14: None of these seem to point at the reflector by the sunflower.  Hmm...
  • 10 of 14: Seem is the operative word, though.
  • 11 of 14: Remember that you can't actually look into the first reflector of the three (counting as you're first walking down the path towards them).
  • 12 of 14: Maybe it points back at the reflector near the sunflower.
  • 13 of 14: So try pointing the last of the three (the one that can capture the sun's rays) at the first, and see what happens.
  • 14 of 14: If you've aimed everything correctly, then the light should travel from the last of the reflectors in the group, to the first one in the group, to the one near the sunflower, to the sunflower itself, and to the sac plant.  If this doesn't happen, you may have to go back and check your aim, unrolling the bridge again if needed.
