Myst III: Exile Hints

How do I finish this age?

  • 1 of 13: That bird you've been seeing all along the way is the key.
  • 2 of 13: If you haven't done so, you want to free the bird after it gets trapped in a giant plant.  You can explore the age and try to solve other puzzles first, or you can free it now -- it's really up to you.  But you will have to free the bird eventually.
  • 3 of 13: You also want to head to the bottom of the age and look at the large blue plants down there.
  • 4 of 13: There are two large blue plants that you will reach down here.  If you haven't found both, look at the previous hint for directions.
  • 5 of 13: Your goal is to open the first plant and then go inside.
  • 6 of 13: If you've opened the first plant and gone down as far as you can, you should now be able to look up and see the "sky".  If you don't see the sky, double-check to make sure you've opened it and that you're not missing any exits.
  • 7 of 13: Look near the plant's center for a few lever-like parts that you can pull.
  • 8 of 13: Pulling any of these causes this plant to release some spores.
  • 9 of 13: If you've freed the bird, the bird will fly pick it up the plant, with you in it.  If not, you need to free the bird and then pull the "levers" again.
  • 10 of 13: You will now be inside the bird's nest.
  • 11 of 13: The exit from this age is very close.
  • 12 of 13: Just turn to your left as you're facing the bird for a path that slides down.
  • 13 of 13: You'll pick up another symbol and find the linking book back to J'Nanin at the bottom of that path.
