Myst III: Exile Hints
I know the ball's path, but what's the solution?
1 of 10: Remember what happens to the marble on the control panel. If you don't, reread these hints.
2 of 10: The marble on the control panel starts out inside the gear at the 10-o'clock position as the ball crosses the first force field and then moves clockwise in "2 hour" increments for each consecutive field.
3 of 10: So set the dials near each force field to match the order that the ball travels.

5 of 10: Labeling the force fields as follows:
C B D A E *
where * indicates where the ball starts, set the controls at C to 10 o'clock. (The large ball goes through C first, and the marble on the control panel starts out at 10 o'clock.)
6 of 10: Set A to 12 o'clock.
7 of 10: Set D to 2 o'clock.
8 of 10: Set B to 4 o'clock.
9 of 10: Set E to 6 o'clock.
10 of 10: Now, pull the lever, and the ball should pass through each force field ring unharmed. If it doesn't, double-check your solution -- it's easy to get turned around as you walk across the tracks.
