Myst III: Exile Hints
How do I start the fan?
1 of 8: You might be able to find the controls that start the fan if you raised the platform in the center of the room.
2 of 8: Start by walking onto the platform, where you'll find the same sort of control that you used to drain the room in the first place.
3 of 8: Notice that you now have several options -- not only can you drag the lever up or down, but you can also drag it across the line in the middle of the circle (i.e., left or right).
4 of 8: Dragging the lever up or down will cause the gear to rotate and dragging the lever side to side moves the gear from one side of the room to the other.
5 of 8: The gear will rotate only once in the same direction on either side of the room, but when it does rotate, it causes the platform to raise or lower.
6 of 8: If you move the platform up twice, you can walk to the far end of the platform to press the button that starts the fan.
7 of 8: To move the platform up twice, you have to use the mechanisms on both sides of the room.
8 of 8: Do this by dragging the lever down once, left (or right) to the other side of the circle, and down again.
