Myst IV: Revelation Hints

How do I open the colorful door?

  • 1 of 20: This hint refers to the colorful door that leads into the old memory chamber.  If you haven't found the colorful door yet, you still have some puzzles to solve first.
  • 2 of 20: Did you look at the colorful door?  Do you remember seeing a similar pattern before?
  • 3 of 20: Have you finished the Spire Age?  If not, you will have to solve all the puzzles there first, before you will have the information needed to solve this one.
  • 4 of 20: This pattern is randomized, from one game to the next, so if you have not looked at this pattern in *your* game, you will need to go back to Spire to get it.  Note: Be careful not to load an old game save for this.  Because the colors are randomized with each game, you will need to actually travel back to Spire (via the linking books) to look at the pattern; then return to Serenia (via the linking books).
  • 5 of 20: In addition to knowing the correct pattern found in Spire -- you must also have been to Dream.
  • 6 of 20: The Dreamworld gives you a clue to color combinations, right at the very end.
  • 7 of 20: Remember the two sets of three colors that were shown to you after you completed the puzzle there?
  • 8 of 20: Okay, now you have all the information needed to solve the puzzle.  First, click on the door lock for a closer view -- see if you can figure out what this door could have to do with the color wheel from Spire.
  • 9 of 20: The color wheel from Spire tells you which of the colored marbles to place around the center of the lock.  See the points in the lines around the circle that jut out into the center?  Each one of them must be the same as the color (from the corresponding spot) from the diagram in Spire.
  • 10 of 20: By correctly placing the marbles in the center of the puzzle, you have placed one-third of the marbles.  Now to figure out how to place the other two-thirds.
  • 11 of 20: If you wanted to distribute the marbles evenly around the circle, you could place them in groups of three (per group).  Do you have any ideas how to figure out what colors to put in each group?
  • 12 of 20: Have you learned about blending colors?  Which colors to blend, to make other colors?
  • 13 of 20: What three colors would create white when combined?  Or rather, what two different groups of three colors could you use to create white?
  • 14 of 20: Remember what you did in Dream.
  • 15 of 20: Use the color sets you saw at the end of dream.  R-G-B; and C-M-Y.
  • 16 of 20: Choose one color set to work with at a time.  Based on the color placed at the point, what other colors would need to be placed with it to make white?
  • 17 of 20: For example, if the color on the point was blue, then you could pair it with the other two colors in its color group.  The other two colors (working clockwise from blue) should be red, then green.
  • 18 of 20: And if a marble matched the color from the other color group, you would need to match it with the other two colors from that color group.  For example, if the marble was cyan (light blue), then the other two colors (working clockwise) would be magenta (pink/purple) and yellow.
  • 19 of 20: When placing the groups of three colors on the pattern on the door, the innermost color will be the one that matches the diagram in Spire; the other two colors should be placed on the outer circle as close as possible to the innermost color.  You should create a triangle shape with the placement of all three colors.
  • 20 of 20: When all six groups of colors are correctly placed, push the button under the colored panel to open the door.
