Myst IV: Revelation Hints
What can I do in the small wooden structure outside the ship?
of 12: What happens if you play with the controls that you can find inside the little enclosure? There are three controls you can interact with -- a crank, a handle, and a lever.
of 12: It appears that you can use the crank to winch up a crate that is outside of the window. The handle drops the crate back down. The lever, at this point, doesn't seem to do much.
of 12: Look around outside; see if you can determine where the cables connect, and what interactions there might be. Can you think of any possible purpose that this mechanism could serve? Also look for other objects to interact with, in the same area (especially when the crate outside is on the ground).
of 12: From all the ropes over the small enclosure, plus the short walkway to the left of the building, you should have a pretty fair idea of what all this is for....
of 12: The small enclosure is a lift -- an elevator, of sorts.
of 12: The only trouble is, the lift needs a certain amount of weight for counterbalance before it will work.
of 12: If you look around the crates outside you will see some cannonballs.
of 12: These can be moved into one of the crates outside.
of 12: Try to winch up the outside crate while the crate contains one or more cannonballs. The crate should move.
of 12: Once you've added weight to the crate outside the enclosure, turned the crank on the winch, then pulled the lever (make sure to pull it down all the way, or it won't work), you should find yourself a bit higher up, level with a walkway to the ship.
