Myst IV: Revelation Hints

Return to Dream -- Conversations with Sirrus, Part I

  • 1 of 23: The object of this puzzle is to piece together a single, logical conversation from the bits and pieces represented by the various objects.
  • 2 of 23: It will make the puzzle a lot easier if you take the time to write down the symbol and the full sentence (or phrase) you hear from each symbol.  To hear a sentence or phrase, move the cursor over each colored symbol.
  • 3 of 23: Next, using your notes on paper, try to piece together a complete conversation, using all of the conversation bits from all of the symbols.
  • 4 of 23: Also, on paper, try to associate different sections of conversation with the five different objects represented by each of the locations around the circle -- a chess set, a carved figurine, a picture, a book, and a crest.
  • 5 of 23: For example, several of the conversation bits have to do with chess.  They would all come under the chess icon (and can be ordered into a reasonable part of the conversation).
  • 6 of 23: After determining which conversation bits go where (and in what order), the most difficult part is to move the associated symbols (the ones that identify each of the conversation bits) to their proper location icon *and get them in the proper order* (reading from top to bottom).
  • 7 of 23: Any time you move to one of the objects and click on it, you will "pick up" *all* of the symbols currently located at that object.  There is no way to pick up less than the complete column of symbols piled.
  • 8 of 23: After picking up one or more symbols, as you move your cursor (now holding all of the symbols) to other locations around the circle, you will find that they will "drop off", one at a time, as you pass over each new object.  The bits of conversation are removed from the top of the stack as they are dropped at the various locations.
  • 9 of 23: You may move either right or left; and you may change direction at any time.
  • 10 of 23: But you cannot skip -- or go around -- any locations.  Each location you move past must receive one piece of conversation.
  • 11 of 23: Nor can you drop more than one conversation bit in any one location at a time.
  • 12 of 23: As each symbol is dropped off, it will add to the bottom of the stack of any symbols already at that location.
  • 13 of 23: It's easiest if you begin with one of the locations that will (in the correct solution) contain the most symbols.
  • 14 of 23: This would be either the chess set, or the figurine.
  • 15 of 23: However, since the chess set *begins* the entire conversation, it is easiest to start there.
  • 16 of 23: First, all symbols already on the chess set (incorrectly) will need to be moved to other locations.
  • 17 of 23: Next, find the first symbol to be placed on the chess set.  Pay close attention to how many moves away the chess set is from the location of the first piece of conversation.
  • 18 of 23: Without moving the conversation column yet, decide how you will proceed once the conversation bits are picked up.  How many symbols are in that conversation column -- and how does that compare to how many moves the conversation stack is from its destination.
  • 19 of 23: You may need to go back and forth between the same two symbols sometimes, in order to correctly place each symbol.
  • 20 of 23: Once you have the first piece of conversation correctly placed, look for the second piece, and place it next -- being careful to not place any other piece of conversation on the chess set, except the correct one.  It doesn't matter, at this point, where the others are placed, as long as the chess set is kept clear for the correct pieces.  Do this for the remainder of the bits of conversation for the chess set.
  • 21 of 23: When the chess set (or any other of the five locations) has the correct symbols, in the correct order and "aura" will be created around that location.  Try not to move the completed columns -- or add any other symbols to it, if possible.
  • 22 of 23: However, if it becomes necessary to "break" an already-established "aura of completion", don't be afraid to do that, if necessary.  The correctly placed columns will still move around, the same as before.
  • 23 of 23: Can you save me some time, and tell me what each conversation bit says?
