Myst IV: Revelation Hints

There isn't enough time! What do I do?

  • 1 of 13: There is a Game Patch available directly from UbiSoft, whch should provide a bit more time to finish the puzzle.  It is possible to solve the puzzle without it, which makes the puzzle a bit more satisfying.  Whether you have the patch installed, or whether you don't, you can use the following tips to help you complete the puzzle.
  • 2 of 13: It may be slightly faster to count how many lights go on or off, each time you move a slider, rather than trying to count each notch up from the bottom.  This is particularly helpful when the slider is near the top position.
  • 3 of 13: Another trick is to pay attention to the number of green lines showing *under* the slider's position.  The number of green lines will always be one less than the actual setting (i.e.: if you want to set the slider to five, make sure four green lines are showing).  This is more helpful when the slider is in the bottom positions.
  • 4 of 13: Also, very important: note that you don't have to *stop* on every part of the combination.  In other words, if two cables are correctly set, and you just quickly slide the third slider up (or down) through the third correct setting, the rock or crystal will begin to vibrate.  (This trick may not work on all computers.  If it doesn't work on yours, then move through the setting slowly, waiting for the metal circle to start turning -- but don't let go of the slider.)
  • 5 of 13: Pre-plan your moves to plan in a few time-saving techniques.
  • 6 of 13: The ring won't start to turn until the third number of a combination is entered.  This information is especially helpful when planning how to enter the first code.
  • 7 of 13: For the first code, note that two numbers are more difficult to enter.  So, enter the six and four first (the first and third sliders).  That way, entering the final number -- twelve -- will be relatively quick and easy (since the slider goes all the way to the top) -- helping to save a precious second or two.
  • 8 of 13: When you go to enter the twelve with the central slider (for the first series of numbers in the first combination), push the slider all the way up to the top (which should make Quartz vibrate) -- and -- without letting go (this is important to save time) -- drag the central slider back down to the set it to the first position.
  • 9 of 13: Next, use the left slider to enter the three.
  • 10 of 13: Okay, here's where you can save a precious second or two.  Grab the third slider, and quickly push it up (past the seventh setting -- don't stop to set it -- just go through it to make Blue Crystal vibrate), then without letting go, pull the slider back down to set it to five.
  • 11 of 13: Next, set the left slider to ten.  It is easiest to count the ten from the top down.  The maximum setting for the slider is twelve, so if you take the slider all the way to the top, you'll only need to count down two notches.
  • 12 of 13: Now, for the central slider, push it up (through 5, which should make the rock vibrate), and without letting go, push it all the way to the top.
  • 13 of 13: Grab each of the other two sliders and push them all the way to the top (to make the Nara vibrate).
