Myst IV: Revelation Hints
What do I do with the spider chair once I've powered it?
of 26: Are you sitting in the chair? Have you pressed the blue button? If you haven't already, go ahead, press the blue button, and try out the various controls on the panel. This puzzle may be made a bit easier by installing a Game Patch available directly from UbiSoft.
of 26: In particular, you'll want to try out the blue slider on the left side.
of 26: Slide it down a notch, then slide it down again. Notice that some other parts of the control panel are active. If they aren't, go back and make sure the chair is properly powered.
of 26: The three cables in the center of the control panel seem to hum when one or more of the three sliders are pulled up.
of 26: However, the humming starts out rather toneless. Perhaps there is a way to improve the tone.
of 26: It seems that you'll need to tune the cables. The cables will be properly tuned when the humming sounds more like musical notes then toneless sounds.
of 26: Have you tried to enter some settings into the control panel by using the sliders found at the bottom of each of the keyboard's three cables?
of 26: If the settings for one of the crystals or rock are entered correctly into the three sliders, the corresponding crystal or rock will vibrate. This, by itself, will not open the complex locking mechanism of the chair.
of 26: All four rock and crystals will need to vibrate at the same time for the locking mechanism will become unlocked.
of 26: Have you watched an individual rock or crystal vibrate, after the sliders are correctly set (leave them set correctly while you watch)? Be sure to look at the rock or crystal in a close-up view to study what happens.
of 26: Once the rock or crystal starts to vibrate, a metal ring begins to rotate around the rock or crystal.
of 26: Every so often, the movement of the crystal changes. Study the ring to figure out why.
of 26: Did you notice a hole in the ring?
of 26: As long as the rock or crystal is inside the solid portion of the rotating metal ring, the ring will continue to turn and the crystal will continue to vibrate.
of 26: When the rock or crystal reaches a hole in the ring, the rock or crystal will push into the hole. If the sliders were not changed since the crystal started vibrating, then when the crystal reaches the hole in the ring, it will begin vibrating again. However, if the sliders have been moved since the crystal started vibrating, then the crystal will not vibrate after it has pushed into the hole in the ring.
of 26: If you could keep all the rocks and crystals vibrating inside the ring at the same time, the "lock" on the chair will open. This means you'll need to act quickly -- before one or more of the crystals stop vibrating.
of 26: Look at each at the different rock or crytals, as each one is vibrating (they don't have to be vibrating at the same time -- just look at at least two different ones). You should notice a difference between them.
of 26: Each ring either has one, two, three, or four holes. The rings are the same otherwise, which means that each one will rotate for a different amount of time before being stopped by the rock or crystal.
of 26: When you've correctly entered the four frequencies into the control panel, you will see a path forming in front of the spider chair. Push the blue button on the right side to lift the control panel up.
