Myst V: End of Ages Hints
What can I do at the large hut on the plateau?
1 of 12: Well, there are lots of windows, but no doors. So, it doesn't look like you can get in quite yet. (If you don't know which hut I'm referring to, you need to climb the cliff first.)
2 of 12: But why don't you take a look inside the hut to see if you can figure anything out? There are 15 windows around the edge of the hut, each with some kind of symbol scratched into it.
3 of 12: Those same symbols are also on the 4 control stations around the hut, but for now, let's just focus on the hut itself.
4 of 12: When you're looking into the hut, pay particular attention to what's on the *inside* of each window.
5 of 12: Or at least above it.
6 of 12: There's another symbol above each window as well.
7 of 12: Try to map out which symbols are on either side of a window. You may have to close several of the windows to see the symbol on the outside, but it tends to be easier to figure out where you're looking at inside if you leave one or two windows open on the other side (beyond the one you're looking through) as a point of reference.
8 of 12: With a little patience, you should be able to map out both sets of symbols. (I'll eventually give the full answer myself if you want to skip this step and keep reading.) Notice that the ones inside the hut seem to be a little more regular in their pattern -- with more circles or lines as you go around the hut from left to right (or counterclockwise).
9 of 12: So it's a reasonable guess that the symbols inside are numbers, starting with a single vertical line as 1.
10 of 12: Each additional line adds another one (where 3 is two vertical lines plus a horizontal one), until you get to 5, which is a single circle. You can continue the pattern all the way to three concentric circles = 3 x 5 = 15.
11 of 12: And the symbol immediately on the other side of the window is the corresponding Bahro number. That is, what's on the other side of the same section of wall, not the symbol 180 degrees around the hut. (For example, the number 1 can be presented either by a single line or the Bahro symbol of a dot inside a circle.)
These symbols are given in the graphic below -- the Bahro numbers I've drawn are somewhat simplified, but they should still be similar enough to the versions in the game to let you tell them apart.
