The Mystery of the Mummy Hints

How about a few more hints, or tips, on working the puzzle?

  • 1 of 7: You'll need to be very aware of the exact lengths of the rows and columns.
  • 2 of 7: The puzzle contains 29 columns, and 31 rows.
  • 3 of 7: Therefore, when you see a column with a 31 above it, every tile in the column must be black; there can be no white tiles.
  • 4 of 7: Similarly, a column with a 30 above it means that there is one, and only one, white tile in the column.  It may be the first tile, or the last -- but all of the rest MUST be black.
  • 5 of 7: Continue working both the horizontal and vertical clues, eliminating all possibilities that CANNOT be, and focusing on what MUST be.
  • 6 of 7: When appropriate, input PARTIAL strings -- such as the case above, where MOST of the tiles are known, even though the endpoint is not yet clear.
  • 7 of 7: Remember that there must be at least one white tile between each string of black tiles.  Therefore, when you add up the numbers in one row (or column), add at least one for each "break" (to represent at least one white tile).  This may allow you to fill in the line more readily, when comparing it to what already exists on the board.
