Nancy Drew 17: Legend of the Crystal Skull Hints
How do I get into the back room?
of 13: We've got to find something that will distract Lamont so he won't notice us sneaking around. What have you got to work with? (Read to the end of this hint for step-by-step directions.)
of 13: To the right of the front door, there's a shelf full of different weird powders. Once you've talked to Lamont about the receipt, look at them and see if there's one you can use.
of 13: Bess takes the sneezing powder. That's a good idea; if we could find a way to get Lamont sneezing, he'd have his eyes closed and we could do whatever we want. But we can't just poof it in his face; he'd be really angry at us and throw us out. We have to find a way to make it look accidental.
of 13: The only other things in the shop we can interact with are on the shelves to the right of the counter. There are all kinds of odd things here -- a record player, a hula doll, a bowling ball, and so on. I wonder if we could rig up some kind of bizarre Rube Goldberg machine to throw powder at Lamont?
of 13: There are all kinds of things to move around, but there's one thing that can't be moved and does something on its own. That's where the action will start.
of 13: If you click on the tank at the lower right, it blows up a happy-face balloon. This does two things: it raises the shelf above it, and (though you can't see it too well) it lifts a lever at the left. Forget the upper shelf for now and concentrate on that spot at the left.
of 13: Put things in the spot to the left of the tank until you find something that does something when you click on the tank. The only thing that works is --
of 13: -- the record player. When you click on the tank, that lever hits the record player, which starts playing a faintly annoying little song. Now put something next to the record player that reacts to sound.
of 13: That hula doll is one of those noise-activated things you find in drug stores sometimes, like the fish that dances and sings when you clap your hands. It goes next to the record player. Now you need something next to the doll that will be affected by her swaying grass skirt.
of 13: See the row of books? They kind of look like dominoes; if you knock over one, the rest will follow. Put them next to the hula doll.
of 13: Do you see the idea now? Not every spot will be filled, but you'll use every item on the shelves.
of 13: If you're having trouble, here's the exact layout you need:
