Nancy Drew 17: Legend of the Crystal Skull Hints

What do I do with the notation on Charlie Wicker's tomb?

  • 1 of 10: This set of directions will be used in conjunction with some instructions you can find in the secret room --
  • 2 of 10: -- in the story Steps in the Right Direction, to be exact --
  • 3 of 10: -- and you'll also need the bony shovel in Renee's work area.
  • 4 of 10: Now that you've read the book and you have the shovel, you can start. Oh, but first write down the directions given on the tomb --
  • 5 of 10: -- it's WNESW -- NWSEN -- ENESW, in case you forgot. Now go past the tomb and into the meadow beyond it. (If you can't, you don't have the shovel yet. Go get it.)
  • 6 of 10: What you're doing here is going in the directions listed on the tomb -- west, then north, then east, and so on. However, there's more to it than that.
  • 7 of 10: Did you notice what the skeleton hand from the shovel is doing? It's holding up a number of fingers. What you need to do is take the number of steps the hand tells you in the direction on the tomb.
  • 8 of 10: For instance, at the beginning you need to go west, so face in that direction. The hand holds up four fingers, so go west for four steps. Then turn north, and the hand holds up two fingers, so go north two steps. And so on.
  • 9 of 10: This can get a little confusing, because the fingers keep moving. When you're taking those first four steps west, the hand counts down -- 4, 3, 2, 1 -- and then it goes to some random number that doesn't mean anything at all. Just turn to the next direction you need to go in and go on from there.
  • 10 of 10: Keep following the fingers, and you'll end up somewhere in the lower right corner of the map looking at the dirt. Use the shovel to dig a hole, then use the shovel to pry open the box you find. Take glass eye number 25 from inside, then grab the bony hand and you're done.
