Nancy Drew: The Haunting of Castle Malloy Hints
How do I solve the slider puzzle on the gate?
1 of 8: This puzzle is located on the right post of the gate, at the spot where you found the Matt doll right after you crashed.
2 of 8: The first problem with any slider puzzle is to figure out what kind of picture you're trying to make. Look at the left post of the gate to see what the picture should look like.
3 of 8: One help here is that the picture has a line around the edge. That is, the pieces that go along the bottom row have a darker line on the bottom of them, and so on.
4 of 8: The second problem is to figure out where the blank space is going to go when the picture is done. Usually it's at a corner; in this case, however, it's in the middle -- the third square of the second row from the top.
5 of 8: Other than that, getting the pieces into the right places is a matter of just moving them around until they fall into place (she said with a heavy sigh). I found it easier to solve the bottom of the puzzle first and then the top.
6 of 8: When you get the puzzle completely solved, Nancy will make a comment about the missing piece. If she doesn't do that, it means the pieces aren't in quite the right places. The two middle pieces on the third row, for example, look very much alike, so if Nancy won't talk try switching those two pieces.
7 of 8: When you're all done, put the missing piece in place to finish the puzzle. If you solved the slider but don't have the missing piece, you can safely walk away; the puzzle will stay solved till you come back.
