How do I get Coucou's perch?

  • 1 of 7: You won't be able to do this until you've decoded ALL of El Toro's journal. And I certainly wouldn't want to; Amazons have an uncertain temper at the best of times.
  • 2 of 7: After you've translated all of the journal and read through it all, Nancy looks at the picture of the astrolabe and the rod it sits on and exclaims that that rod looks like Coucou's perch. Go talk to Coucou to see if you can trade her perch with another perch.
  • 3 of 7: After you give Coucou a guava, she asks for some driftwood for a perch. There are three places on the island where you can find some driftwood: Sangre Beach, Shark Cove, and Blue Hole. Just grab one and take it to Coucou; it doesn't matter which one --
  • 4 of 7: -- because it won't be right no matter which one you bring. Coucou doesn't want just ANY piece of driftwood; she has some requirements, or maybe she just likes seeing you run around. Keep going back and forth for new driftwood, following her requirements, until you find the right perch.
  • 5 of 7: Unfortunately, Coucou wants something different every time you play the game, so I can't tell you which specific piece of driftwood Coucou wants. The one thing that never changes is that the first one you bring will NOT be right. Picky bird! Read on for help on finding what she wants.
  • 6 of 7: If Coucou asks for a perch with no bark, find a piece of driftwood that is a lighter shade of brown and looks smooth.  If she asks for a perch with bark, find one that is a darker shade of brown and looks rough. Coucou will also sometimes specify how many branches she wants, so before picking up a piece of driftwood, count how many branches it has.
  • 7 of 7: After you find the right perch, you'll be able to take the old one.
