Nancy Drew: Ransom of the Seven Ships Hints

How do I follow the note from the kidnappers?

  • 1 of 13: Well, your first step is to fix the golf cart and drive out to Shark Cove.
  • 2 of 13: Now look at that note again. This long list of numbers will help you find a chest with an important book in it that's buried at Shark Cove. Read to the end of this hint for step-by-step directions.
  • 3 of 13: To dig out the chest, you'll need a shovel, which is in the shed back at the resort lobby.
  • 4 of 13: Now read the note from the kidnappers again, especially the second paragraph. It says that each object will tell you how many steps to walk opposite of that object. The chart tells you how many more paces to walk. Huh?
  • 5 of 13: What this means is that each part of the path will put you right next to an object with a number of parts to it -- a tree with three branches, four rocks in a pile, two sticks in the sand, and so on. You take that number, multiply it by the number on the chart, and that's the number of paces to walk for that part of the path. Stand with your back to the object and walk. That puts you next to another object, so repeat the process.
  • 6 of 13: Keep reading, and I'll explain the first couple of steps. Number 1 on the chart tells you to start below the "W" and walk 3 paces south. Walk into the middle of the area and look for four palm trees that form a giant W. (Just like in the movie "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World," if you ever saw it.)
  • 7 of 13: You can find the W trees to the right of the pond. Stand with your back to the W, facing south, and walk three steps. You should now be standing next to three coconuts on poles (or whatever they are).
  • 8 of 13: There are three coconuts, and the chart says to multiply this by one, so you're going to go three steps. Stand with your back to the coconuts, facing left (west), and walk three steps. This puts you next to a palm tree with three branches.
  • 9 of 13: There are three branches, and object 3 on the chart says to multiply it by 3, so that's 9 steps. Stand with your back to the palm tree and walk north (up) nine steps.
  • 10 of 13: Now you're next to another palm tree with three branches, and object 4 on the chart says x 3 again. Can you figure out what to do?
  • 11 of 13: Keep using this same method for all fifteen objects. Here's a chart to help you if you get stuck.
  • 12 of 13: Once you've done all fifteen steps, you should be standing four paces to the right of three coconuts and two paces above two coconuts. There is a cluster of four rocks to your far left; there are two pairs of palm trees above. Dig in front of your feet (directly above you) by right-clicking on the spot, where the cursor turns into a hand. And inside the chest is --
  • 13 of 13: -- not a treasure! It's just a book, all written in some sort of cipher. Rats! I thought that was a little too easy.
