Nancy Drew 21: Warnings at Waverly Academy Hints

How do I solve the puzzles in the classroom?

  • 1 of 11: There are two puzzles in the classroom, or rather, two halves of the same puzzle.
  • 2 of 11: The most obvious thing is that gorgeous wooden map of the United States. Did you notice that it's missing a state?
  • 3 of 11: If you're doing this on the second night, you probably have Oklahoma in your inventory. If not, well, go back to bed.
  • 4 of 11: Okay, back to the classroom. Put Oklahoma in its place (in the middle of the country) and take a picture of the map for Rachel, then turn around. The next part of the puzzle is on the column just to the left of the door.
  • 5 of 11: Go look at the raven carving on the left side of the door. Notice that you can push the pieces in, hmm! But what order do we push them?
  • 6 of 11: There was something about this in Rita's journal, the one you found in the cornerstone outside.
  • 7 of 11: On page 4, she says you can tell a raven from a crow with "close observation of the wedge tail, large bill, shaggy breast ruff, and elegantly long primary feathers." So push those bits: tail, bill, breast, and primaries (the longest wing tip feathers, just above the tail). It starts to turn around, then --
  • 8 of 11: Boom! All of the states except Washington have come a-tumbling down, fooey! Go put them back in place; as Rita says, "Reconstruction of these United States will lead to an even more wonderful conclusion." Sounds worth doing to me.
  • 9 of 11: The best way to tackle this is start with states you know about and build around them. I can always find my home state and the ones around it, plus some of them are obvious -- there's no mistaking Texas, Florida, or California, for instance. And the west coast, where all the states are big and blocky, is a lot easier than the east coast, where they're all tiny. (Unless you're from the east, in which case I'm sure they're the easiest of all. Right?)
  • 10 of 11: If you're having difficulty with this or you're not familiar with the way the 48 states fit together (and honestly, if you're not from the US, why would you be?), here's a screenshot of the completed map to help you out:
  • 11 of 11: When the map is back together again, go back to the raven to find what it was hiding.
