Nancy Drew 22: Trail of the Twister Hints
How do I fix the TV?
of 11: This puzzle can be a bit of a stinker, I know. Read to the end of this hint for step-by-step directions.
of 11: As you might have figured out, what you need to do here is use the smaller knobs on the right to move the circles in the test pattern around until they match the red, green, and blue patterns at the left.
of 11: What you might not have realized is that the order in which you do them matters.
of 11: Start with red. That is, move the circles till they match the red pattern, and then the red circle at the right will disappear. Do green next, and then blue, and then you're done.
of 11: One problem with this puzzle is that the patterns don't show all the pieces of the color that are on the circles. They just show two to four in each circle. That means you're going to have to pay close attention to the bits you're looking for, and you won't be really certain you've got it until you do the last circle and that color disappears.
of 11: However, there is only one arrangement of the circles that matches the pattern. If you can match the pieces shown in the pattern, you've got it right.
of 11: The small knobs turn both ways; move the mouse slightly to the right of the knob to turn it clockwise, and to the left to turn it counterclockwise.
of 11: The strategy that works best for me is to start with the outside circle and move inwards, leaving the hardest circle for last. If you have all the other circles set right, when you get to the last circle you can just spin it till it meshes.
of 11: I also find it easier to set my eye on a single mark, get that one in the right place, and then check to see if the other two are in the right place. For example, in the red pattern, there's a red piece in the middle of the upper right quadrant of the outer circle. So I turn that circle till there's a red piece in that spot, then check to see if I've matched the other two spots. If not, I turn again; if so, I go to the next circle.
of 11: This puzzle doesn't reset if you turn the TV off or back away. This is both good and bad. It's good because it means you can stop in the middle and come back to it if you want without having to start over. However, it also means my directions won't be much help to you if you've messed with this puzzle, since I don't know where you've got your circles.
of 11: Here are the turns you need to make when you're starting from the beginning of this puzzle.
