Nancy Drew 23: Shadow at the Water's Edge Hints
How do I use the computer?
of 8: If you look at it, you'll see that there's only one program you can use, the one called "Avatar." And that has a copy protection thing going on.
of 8: Go back to the expo and ask Yumi about it. After you do another bento for her --
of 8: -- she'll give you a piece of paper with a pattern on it that will look familiar if you tried to use the Avatar program.
of 8: To start the program, go back to Yumi's apartment and click on the Avatar icon again. This brings up a screen full of colored dots and an array of patterns on the right. Pick the one that looks like the design on the paper Yumi gave you, then place it on the screen so the pattern of the dots inside the shape is the same as on the paper.
of 8: Finding the right position for the shape can be kind of time-consuming. One way to speed up the process is to pick two spots on the pattern -- say, the very top and the next one down -- and move the shape around the square from top to bottom looking for places where those two dots are the right color.
of 8: The correct spot for the shape is close to being in the exact center of the screen. If you're having trouble, here's a screenshot:
of 8: The avatar program is rather fun, though mostly useless. After you make an interesting figure, back out to the Send screen, then enter your own phone number to send it to your phone. You can then go into your phone's address book and click on the Options button to select that avatar for a specific person. You can also send them to other people if you want to.
of 8: The only time the Avatar program is important, other than for just having fun, is when you're trying to get a copy of Savannah's book.
